Late Yunus Abioye Oyeleke was born in Offa town to Prince Sunmonu Oyeleke of the Ile Obatiwajoye Compound and Sa’adatu Adebola of Igbonna town (approximately 10.5km from Offa).
His early education was obtained in Ghana, from where he finished with his First School Leaving Certificate. He gained admission to the famous Offa Grammar School in 1947, ending with a West Africa School & London Matriculation Certificates in 1951.
Abioye worked briefly in Ibadan from 1952 as a Junior Clerk after gaining his London Matriculation. He moved to Jos from Ibadan to work with the firm of Casselton Elliot (later KPMG) and later proceeded to the United Kingdom (UK) on a Scholarship from the Government of the Northern region in 1956. He qualified as a Certified Accountant in 1959 and as a Chartered Accountant of England and Wales in 1961.
The Northern Nigeria Audit department was the first opportunity to serve as Auditor, later moving to the Northern Nigeria Marketing Board as principal accountant.
Abioye joined the firm of Akintola Williams & Co (AW) in 1963 and was later admitted to partnership in 1965. After a brief stint in Lagos, he moved to Kano as resident partner of AW. The affairs of Rotary Club, Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), The Lawn Tennis Association, Nigeria Institute of Management (NIM) were all part of his life and of course the Offa Community.
He moved to Lagos in 1977 and rose to Managing Partner of AW & Co till retirement. Whilst in Lagos, Abioye was fully engaged in the affairs of the Musical Society of Nigeria (MUSON), Franco Nigeria Chamber of Commerce (which he served as President), the Nigeria Conservation Foundation and the Lagos Metropolitan Club. He was Charter President of the Rotary Club of Lagos Central and served as Board member of the Cocoa Board in Ibadan between 1979-1983. He also served as Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) between 1993 – 1995.
At home in Offa, he continued his association with the Offa Descendants Union (ODU), Offa Mesi, Charity and religious activities including the annual Usman Oyeleke Ramadan Tafsir lectures.
